Matthew Woolhouse presented with Early Researcher Award
Seven McMaster researchers including School of the Arts Assistant Professor of Music, Matthew Woolhouse, have earned Early Researcher Awards from the Government of Ontario. The awards combine up to nearly $1-million in research investment into disciplines across the University.
Dr. Woolhouse’s research into creating technologies that can help with therapies for people with Parkinson’s disease. The disease primarily affects the motor system making movements stiff and slow. Researchers and therapists have been turning to music and dance to help those with the disease as a means of moving more easily than without the therapy. Woolhouse has partnered with Hamilton City Ballet to help create a video game that will hopefully one day take the therapy to many more patients across the world.
