CCL FORUM! Indigenous Intersections

Indigenous Intersections Forum | June 23rd | All Day | Honouring the Circle

This week you may have read that the Ontario Government apologized for Ontario’s Residential Schools System, which has been termed cultural genocide by Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC). It was just over seven generations between the opening of the first residential school until the last one closed its doors in 1991, and the results have been devastating for the Indigenous children who were stolen from their families, assimilated and abused by those who were charged with caring for them. Here is a copy of Ontario’s announcement:

The Canadian Government is on the verge of announcing a long-overdue national inquiry into missing and murdered Indigenous women, of which there are estimated to be over 2,000.

In light of these developments, and recognizing that June 21st is National Aboriginal Day, Core Collaborative Learning is teaming up with local Indigenous organizations and individuals, McMaster University, and BC author, Lorimer Shenher (book review: to produce the Indigenous Intersections Forum on Thursday, June 23rd, 8.30am-4.30pm.

Come to the forum to learn about Indigenous history, the legacy of colonialism, the Truth & Reconciliation Commission, and what it all means for our work in Hamilton. Reflect and engage each other in dialogue to develop ways to incorporate the ideology of reconciliation and theTRC’s Calls to Action into your work and personal lives as Canadians.

There will be food, a whole day of dialogue and learning together, book signings, and excellent opportunities to network and be part of these exciting changes happening across Canada.
