Matthew Coley Concert and Talk

(Marimba, Percussion, Dulcimer)

The concert will be followed by a short talk by Matthew Coley about the instruments used during the concert, various styles and techniques, and his approach to music.

MATHEW COLEY is a very versatile performer, and educator. Along with the marimba his pieces incorporate other percussion tools such as the cimbalom, hammer dulcimer and glass. He has accompanied Millennium Chamber Players, San Francisco Sinfonietta, Kurpfalzisches Kammerorchester Mannheim, and Moldavian Philharmonic and Teleradio Symphony Orchestras.  Mathew has been featured a few times now on Chicago’s WFMT Classical Radio Station and also featured in Time Out Chicago Magazine.  He has attended many international competitions and has played in the world premiere of “Tides and Riptides; Concerto for Marimba, Woodblocks, and Orchestra.”  Currently, Mathew is a lecturer at Iowa State University, and maintains his professional modern dance career as the director of SONIC INERTIA (dance, electronic media and live music).  His second album “Souvenirs,” released in 2012, was described as innovative and electronic.
