Grace Sippy’s work explores psychology, identity, space, illusion and the representation of reality—blurring the line between those that are lived and those that exist within the mind. Human identity is complex in its formation and composition. She focuses on the hidden or underlying parts of our psyches, such as Carl Jung’s concept of the Personal Unconscious or Shadow Self, and how it affects our identities. She uses surrealistic imagery and shadows to demonstrate how they can undermine one’s conscious self-image and have destructive effects on body and mind.
