Foreword


Welcome to the third issue of the McMaster Music Analysis Colloquium.  The graduate students of Dr. William Renwick’s 701 Analysis class bring this collection of essays to you. This particular issue focuses on fugal form with analysis on pieces by composers ranging from Palestrina to Honegger, with a little Bach thrown in for good measure! 

 
Dr. Renwick has included a very useful breakdown of aspects of fugal form. Readers who are new to the form will find his precis helpful in understanding the following analyses.  Each student began this project at different theory levels with different writing styles. We hope that this variety will delight the readers of this colloquium.
