The Office of the AVP, Faculty is pleased to present Introduction to McMaster’s new Sexual Violence Policy (SV) &
Review of the Discrimination, Harassment, Sexual Harassment (DHSH): Prevention and Response Policy workshop
Thursday, February 9
1pm to 3pm
GH 111
In response to the provincial legislative requirement, McMaster University developed a stand-alone Sexual Violence policy, to be implemented on January 1, 2017.
The new policy is applicable to all members of the McMaster community including students, staff, faculty, volunteers and visitors, and applies to all acts of sexual violence where the University has the jurisdiction to pursue, adjudicate or take steps to safeguard the community. It outlines the supports available to Survivors, as well as the process for making disclosures and initiating complaints, and specifies the investigation and adjudication process to be followed.
The two-year review of McMaster’s Discrimination, Harassment, Sexual Harassment: Prevention and Response Policy (DHSH Policy) is set to commence in early 2017. In light of the new Sexual Violence Policy and the fact that sexual harassment is in its purview, it is anticipated the DHSH Policy will be amended to account for this duplication.
This workshop will include:
Orientation to the new Sexual Violence Policy, including supports, process for disclosures, complaints, and reports, and investigative and adjudication processes, with a focus on the roles and responsibilities of chairs and directors.
DHSH Policy review, including the opportunity to provide feedback on current experiences and suggestions for change.
Time for questions, shared problem-solving, identification of needed next steps or supports.
If you are interested in attending, please register at: DHSH-SV Policies
Workshop facilitators include a staff in each of the four Intake Offices on campus who work intimately with these policies:
Maggie Pooran, Associate Director, Employee/Labour Relations, Human Resources Services
Pilar Michaud, Director, Human Rights and Dispute Resolution
Robin Edwards, Advisor, Professionalism, Education Services, Health Sciences
Allison Drew-Hassling, Director Student Support and Case Management.
We look forward to seeing you at the workshop.
