Dr. John Sandlos is an assistant professor in the Department of History at Memorial University of Newfoundland, where he studies the history of the Canadian conservation movement and the environmental history of northern Canada.  He is the author of Hunters at the Margin: Wildlife Conservation in the Northwest Territories (UBC Press, 2007).  He has also published recent papers on human exclusion from Canadian national parks and ecological imperialism in the North in the journals Environmental History and the Journal of the Canadian Historical Association.  Dr. Sandlos has recently undertaken a SSHRC-funded project on the history of mining in Northern Canada with Dr. Arn Keeling of the Geography Department at Memorial University of Newfoundland.
