For my term paper I will apply Derrida's method of deconstruction to music. I hope to find some element of logocentrism in the music to which I should be able to find a supplement, thus subverting the process by which the piece of music is said to produce meaning.
For this task I have decided to look a George Crumb's Black Angels for sting quartet. Because the composer has a specific program and thus meaning in mind for this piece it will be interesting to see how the composer marginalizes one aspect of the meaning while centering the other in the music.
I am heavily indebted to Alex's undergraduate thesis for an introduction into this subject as well as for the premise of my paper.
