  • Congratulations to Geoff Callaghan, who has had two articles accepted for publication. "Defective, But Still Law: A Critique of Mark Murphy's Weak Natural Law Jurisprudence" will be published inThe Canadian Journal of Law & Jurisprudence and "Bergson and Athleticism" will be published in Sports, Ethics & Philosophy: Journal of the British Philosophy of Sport Association. Well done Geoff!

2012 was a very busy year for the McMaster Legal Philosophy Graduate Program. Four doctoral students and three MA students successfully defended their dissertations/theses. Our heartfelt congratulations to the them all!

John Otto Phillips & Matthew Grellette successfully defended on successive days. On Thursday, September 13th Otto defended his dissertation Administrative Review, Deference, and Authority, and on Friday, September 14th, Matt defended Positivism Beyond the Hartian Pale. Otto is now in the first year of the JD program at our Partner institution, Osgoode Hall Law School, while Matt is enrolled in the Master of Studies of Law program at the University of Toronto.

Heather Kuiper defended her dissertation Understanding Fundamental Secondary Rules and the Inclusive/Exclusive Legal Positivism Debate on Tuesday, October 23rd. In attendance was the External Examiner, Professor Veronica Rodriguez-Blanco of the Law Faculty, University of Birmingham. Heather is currently enrolled in the LLM program at our Partner institution, Osgoode Hall Law School.

James Specyal successfully defended his MA thesis Razian Authority and Law on September 19th. James is currently serving in Americorps.

Max Leonov successfully defended his MA thesis Legality and the EU on Friday, September 21st. Max is currently enrolled in the first year of PhD studies in legal philosophy at McMaster.

Jorge Fabra successfully defended his MA thesis Professor Murphy of Legal Defectiveness on Friday, October 12th. Jorge is now in his first year of the McMaster PhD program in legal philosophy.

Fabio Shecaira, successfully defended his dissertation Legal Scholarship as a Source of Law on February 9, 2012.

Shortly thereafter, Fabio returned to his native Brazil where he is now a Professor in the Faculty of Law, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro.

Well done Fabio. Our heartfelt congratulations!!
